Atenas Canton ☀️

Atenas Central Park

The canton of Atenas belongs to the province of Alajuela. Its main town is also called Atenas.

It is located in the Central Valley of Costa Rica and is divided into seven districts or neighborhoods, with a population of approximately 30,000 people.

The topography of Atenas is quite mountainous. In 1960, National Geographic declared Atenas to have the best climate in the world, due to its stable and pleasant temperatures ranging between 20°C and 30°C, with abundant sunshine and cool breezes throughout the year.

In terms of education, Atenas has five secondary schools, one very large primary school in the town center, and each district has its own school. Additionally, there are two universities in the town.

Atenas has a very strategic and privileged location: only 40 minutes from the international airport, about one and a half hours from the beach, one and a half hours from Volcán Poás—one of the most active, impressive, and accessible volcanoes in the world—and just 40 minutes from the capital, San José.

The people in this canton are very welcoming, friendly, and warmly receive visitors.

ATESA would be very pleased if its programs serve as a way for many people to enjoy this picturesque town.
